Mac’s Uptowner and the Inaugural Writing The Rails Street Team!

By David Kav

As Theresa posted in her Tweets, we had a quick bite at the Original Jimmy John’s (which wasn’t as historic as “the” Burger King…but I can’t blame them since they’ve only been in existence since 1983.  Quite new - for my standards.)  No matter - always enjoy the Italian Night Club sandwich.  So, swallowed that and headed straight over to Mac’s Uptowner Cellar, Inc.

The first thing that caught our eyes was the neon sign that said “Wrigleyville.”  As I mention in a possible forthcoming video: “We did leave Chicago, right?”  So, took some vid and stepped into the bar.

A long, dimly lit room with walls covered in red; we make our way to the back of the bar and set our stuff down on the stage at the other end of the establishment. We got Ed (who lives upstairs and is a regular Blues musician who tours and plays @ Mac’s Uptowner on occasion.  Foreshadowing, anyone?  Hmmm…) to help with the PA set up and what have you.  Quick sound check and I was ready to go when the clock struck 9:30 PM.

Marci Gallagher (along with her husband, Phil) showed up with some of their friends.  REALLY cool cats!  Marci took it upon herself to make up a flier for the event while Phil passed out 60 on and/or near the campus of EIU (hence, the Inaugural Writing The Rails Street Team.  Seriously - kick ass!)  Out of that, 3 of their friends showed up (which is above average from the 1% rule of everyone who hit with publicity for events.  This is what I’ve heard in the past, anyhow.)  So, mix these cool peeps with the regulars on a Wednesday night - great time!

As of right now, Writing The Rails has raised approximately $275.  The way things are “falling into place,” I am very grateful and very happy.  More to come… For now though, since it is 2:50 AM as I type this….bed calls.  Theresa is already knocked out.  Poor thing.  I have to state - for the record - that she has been working non-stop since the tour started.  Hell, the Whole Team of Writing The Rails has!  I’m truly thankful for everyone on this team!

This concludes Day 2 of Writing The Rails: Memphis.  Night, everyone!  :D
