Debrief of Writing The Rails (in real time)/"Bound...
By David Kav
For those who follow me on Twitter personally (www.twitter.com/davidkav) you know that I Tweet A LOT. Today, however, not so much. Many reasons for that.
Day 6 was the Final Day/Event for the Inaugural Writing The Rails. Theresa and I had a very pleasant late breakfast with our gracious hosts and friends, Rich and Suzanne Varnon. CK’s Coffee Shop. As I told them, it felt...
Day 3: From Nothing to a whole lot of Somethings
by Theresa Carter
When we started this trip we had a big hole on Day 3. We were getting off the train in Carbondale around 2 in the afternoon and not getting back on until almost 12 hours later. While it’s a college town and there are lots of bars, we didn’t have any leads for a gig. Until Tuesday.
We were on the train to Champaign. Shortly before arriving David received an email...

We’ve already raised $325 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. You can still help to make a difference to what we’ll give them tomorrow at the Private In-Patient Concert @ 1 pm. Those who make a contribution of $5 or more will get an mp3 that David Kav will record of one of the new songs that have been written while on this tour.

And we begin Day 5
By Theresa Carter
Yesterday was an amazing - though sleep-numbed - day of Graceland, Marathon Expo, and The Bar-B-Q Shop. After a decent night’s sleep (6 hours - woohoo!) we’re up and ready to go again.
Today David’s playing at mile 9 of the St. Jude’s Marathon. Then we’re going to visit the Rock ‘n Soul Museum and tour around Beale Street. At some point...
Great article in Daily Egyptian - Carbondale, IL -...

Many, many thanks to Travis Bean for a GREAT write-up in the Daily Egyptian re: Writing The Rails. It was great meeting him last night at the show @ Longbranch Coffee House (which was made possible thanks to Travis’ lead…and with the HUGE help from Lucas and crew of Longbranch as well…)
Here’s an excerpt from said article:

As Theresa posted in her Tweets, we had a quick bite at the Original Jimmy John’s (which wasn’t as historic as “the” Burger King…but I can’t blame them since they’ve only been in existence since 1983. Quite new - for my standards.) No matter - always enjoy the Italian Night Club sandwich. So, swallowed that and headed straight over to...
It's the little things
by Theresa Carter
It’s icky & rainy in Mattoon so David and I have been camped out in the hotel. We chose Super 8 again because a) it’s cheap, b) they have pastries and fruit for breakfast, c) it’s cheap, and d) they have free WIFI. A bonus is they also have a computer - with printer - for everyone to use, also for free.
This came in very handy this afternoon. I booked a...
We now have a gig in Carbondale Tomorrow night!!!
By David Kav
Hey, everyone!
I’m super, over, hyper ..yeeeeeeeahhh, excited (more so than usual…which is a scary sight for those who know me.) Buuuut, thanks to the AWESOMENESS that is the following people: Theresa Carter of The Local Tourist, Travis Bean from the Daily Egyptian (student newspaper/publication from Southern Illinois University) and Lucas from Longbranch Coffee...
Day 2: Champaign to Charleston
By Theresa Carter
We’re now in the Illinois Terminal waiting for the train. One thing I’m learning quickly is that Amtrak is always late. It’s not really their fault; the rails are owned by freight companies and most of the line is one track only. Alan at the Amtrak counter told me they try to have passing tracks every 10 miles or so. He also mentioned that about 90% of the...
I may fully feel it tomorrow...
By David Kav
Sitting in our hotel room in Champaign, IL, Theresa and I are going through photos, videos and notes throughout Day One of Writing The Rails. As I Tweeted earlier, Theresa leans over to me while we’re aboard the Amtrak and says, “you’re now officially on tour.” With all of the details and work that was put into making Writing The Rails a reality, I really...
We did leave Chicago, right?
By Theresa Carter
We’re at Aroma Cafe in Champaign-Urbana. It’s a comfortable coffee/sandwich shop with a southwestern motif, a really good Cuban sandwich, and college students studying intently for finals. It’s also the first “official” gig on this tour.
It was dark by the time we got outside Chicago’s city limits and it’s so close to the train station...
